The main reason of our performance
tour for aged welfare center to every
coner of whole country with specially
prepared "silver culture program
is that we have tried to realize,
so called, the movement of "respect
for the aged" in general social
attitude.
In fact, we do know that as time goes
by the number of "the aged people"
becomes higher and higher despite
of desperate shortage of special programs.
Accordingly, CHONG-DONG Theater has
spread out "Nationwide aged people
welfare center project".
This project is to unite the scattered
aged people welfare center nationwide
by means of performance.
In other words, we are trying to combine
separately managed nationwide 120
space for the aged through the special
software of our performance.
By providing proper software continously,
we can build up the cultural vitality
among the aged group.

To let the people realize our project,
our theater team spread out lots of
performance to 120 nationwide 'the
aged people culture center'.
It is the first trial in Korea, we
cultivate, namely, "program for
the silver age", making a performance
tour to every corner of the country
where silver age group is.
As a big project, during one year
period from Dec 2000 to 2001, we have
carried it out continously.
The first stage was Chung-Buk silver
culture center in Chung-Ju (13th,Dec,00),
from this place the performance enlarged
to Chun-Buk Kim-Je (19th,Dec,00),
Kyung-Buk Kyung-San (20th,Dec,00),
Chung-Buk Jin-Chun (22,Dec,00), Young-Dong
(23rd,Dec,00), Chun-Buk Kun-San (27th,Dec,00),
Cheon-Ju (28th,Dec,00), Kang-Won Sok-Cho
(16th,Jan,01), Dae-Jeon Seo-Gu (17,Jan,01),
Kyung-KiDo Dong-Du-Chun (29,Jan,01),
Eui-Jung-Bu(30th,Jan,01), Po-Chun(31st,Jan,01),
An-Yang (2nd,Feb,01), Yi-Chun (5th,Feb,01),

The main reason for progession of
the 'aged welfare center network'
project is from realizing that it
is the time to consolidate the foundation
of cultural welfare, which was in
July, 2000, in spite of Korea stepping
into an aged society (age 65 and older
consisting 7% of the whole population),
there has been no cultural program
for silver aged group.
In fact, up to now except a few big
city's aged welfare center, most of
aged people were killing time playing
cards or Jang-Gi game. This 'aged
welfare center network' project
will be a foundation of turning
the unproductive and unpleasureable
leisure to a purely cultural performance
art.

There has not been a performance for
aged group.
Those groups have been isolated from
the cultural society and also aged
welfare center is an culturally isolate
place.
The purpose of the 'aged welfare center
network' project is to act 'social
filial devotion' practically for those
who have been neglected from the society.
Those groups is not only the parents
of our generation but also we will
belong to the silver generation in
the near future.
The programs performed here are consisted
of traditional Korean music repertory
for the first part.
We are getting closer to them by having
various repertories like traditional
dance, KaYaKum singing, SaMulNoRi,
PanSoRi, PanGut, and MinYo, representing
Korean traditional songs and dances.
We are also giving out warm rice cakes,
socks or other things with the performance.
Through the aged welfare center network
project, our theater will give a comfort
and pleasure to the eldery citizens
nationwide and they can enjoy the
scent of culture at their own aged
welfare center.

project is the one of the biggest
projects supported by the Department
of Culture and Tourism. |
This project is one of the Department
of Culture and Tourism's main projects.
Department of Culture and Tourism
supports our program not only in the
big city stages, but also in the remote
small farming and fishing area regardless
of distance or difficulties to approach.
They do this by providing them the
same programs to fill the gap between
the city and the country
CHONG-DONG Theater's project of silver
culture program we will make visits
over 120 places, and it is a big burden
on our shoulder because of their poor
surroundings and facilities to prepare
our performances. Nevertheless the
purpose of this project is so clear
: equalization of culture, making
a balance of culture for silver group
small city as well as big city, especially
we emphasize on remote fishery and
farming area dwellers.
We do think that is our aim to realize
our purpose of 'dusk - culture - dawn'.
